Re: Iris Guitars. (DF)

I recently received an 12-fret Iris MS-00 I ordered from them directly. 10 week turnaround, came out great. My experience dealing with them was excellent.

Re: Any experience with Modified V neck vs. C shaped neck?

I have a Collings C10 and really like it's C shape neck. Never much liked V shape necks.

I generally don’t like V necks either, but Collings modified V neck is really subtle. It has more “shoulders” than other ones I’ve tried. For example, I really don’t like Martin’s V necks. I had a C-10 for ...

Re: Any experience with Modified V neck vs. C shaped neck?

I like both the vintage now and C shaped necks. Collings’ website shows neck dimensions for each model, take a look if you haven’t yet.

Note that I have seen some errors on their website.

As Brazad pointed out, the CJ45-T neck is huge - they describe it as the CJ45 carve, so don’t let that scare ...

Here’s a link to D’Addario’s page to verify that your strings are authentic. There are counterfeits out there:

Why don’t you contact D’Addario and let us know what they say?

Hoping for Waterloo alternatives

It looks to me that Collings won’t bring back the Waterloo line. That’s their right, but the prices for new Collings (and SCGC, H&D and Bourgeois) are just way beyond what I’ll pay for a guitar. I hope that some former Waterloo employees will start building guitars similar in concept to the ...

Re: I’m not liking recent Collings bursts

There are definitely some issues with the digital photos at Thunder Road regarding gradients. They make the Gibson-inspired examples here look particularly bad. My main issue is the expanding dark outer area on the lower bout, the 002 14 fret being a good example of what I’m talking about.

I’m not liking recent Collings bursts

I’ve noticed some recent Collings sunbursts seem to be expanding up towards the bridge on the lower bouts. They look off balance to me. I’m also seeing some darker bursts that I’m not crazy about. Historically I thought most Collings bursts were amazing.

Here are some examples from what’s currently ...

Re: Why is This Forum Dead?

I think the main reason this Waterloo forum is so quiet is because Collings isn’t making them anymore (yes, a new one pops up every once in awhile). It’s a shame. I understand Collings makes more $ on Collings guitars, but I think the Waterloos were a great idea. I’ve tried some Iris guitars, and ...

Re: Collings Necks: T vs Mod-V vs Waterloo

I don’t like the WL-14 v-necks either. I have an 002H 14-fret (original, not a traditional). The neck is very comfortable, nothing like the Waterloo.
