I have an immaculate Brazilian D2HBAAAA dated 12/95, #2130. Quartersawn Brazilian, red spruce top, 1 3/4" nut, bound headstock. Includes recent Collings labeled TKL case. Bill Collings told us that he had done the scalloped bracing on this guitar. Continuing to downsize. Located in Knoxville, TN ...

Re: Collings Traditional
The nice thing about Collings is you pretty much can get any type of acoustic. I have a '95 D2HBAAAA, Brazilian, herringbone, red spruce that Bill voiced the top bracing on ...... spectacular on all accounts. I have a new 2018 D1AT Baked that really competes side-by-side with old '30's D-18's. I ...

Maybe i got lucky or my ear doesn't hear 'highs' as much as they once did, but i would never describe mine as bright. It has a great tone IMO with a flatpick ...

I've never noticed any perceptible difference to my ears. For me, it's a visual thing.

Re: Collings through the years and your preferences
I have a '95 D2HBAAAA ....... Brazilian, red spruce that is very special to me. It was originally my best friend's and I acquired it upon his passing. Bill Collings acknowledged that he had carved the braces on it.
But ...... I have a new D-1AT baked that will set you free.
