with the announced retirement of Bruce Van Wart, i have been reflecting on Collings guitars and their incredible staff. i first became aware of Collings while frequenting one of my old haunts in Palo Alto. and i always looked forward to receiving in the mail the next copy of Gryphon's newsletter, and this one from 1993 was my favorite; with the one, and only, Bill Collings out front.

The one and only Bill! I’m sure that other guitar genius - Bob Taylor - enjoyed seeing his buddy wear that shirt!

on the retirement, i was just alluding to the post in "announcements" on this forum. in keeping with currently accepted journalistic practice, i did not verify before publishing.

Wow! Thanks for this post and picture. I just moved to my closet and lifted out my 1993 D2H #889 and thought, "These were the guys who built my guitar." Great memory, and I do like the Taylor T-shirt. I think Bill Collings and Bob Taylor have done more than any others in the past thirty years to move the guitar industry out of the doldrums.
