Apologies if this has been addressed already, but I looked through the thread and didn't see it. That damage is typical of some hard, but not sharp edged object denting the finish after it was applied. It is sometimes called "worming". This can happen with lacquer, especially new lacquer that is relatively soft, such that the finish does not break but both the finish and wood beneath are compressed. I am certain it wasn't in the wood before the guitar was finished by Collings. Given the location on the back, I tend to blame buttons on a shirt or jacket.
