I hope they make it right too. The guitar arrived back at CME yesterday. Waiting to hear about the refund.

I don't think you need to be concerned about them refunding your money.

Apologies if this has been addressed already, but I looked through the thread and didn't see it. That damage is typical of some hard, but not sharp edged object denting the finish after it was applied. It is sometimes called "worming". This can happen with lacquer, especially new lacquer that is relatively soft, such that the finish does not break but both the finish and wood beneath are compressed. I am certain it wasn't in the wood before the guitar was finished by Collings. Given the location on the back, I tend to blame buttons on a shirt or jacket. I'd bet good money this happened far from Texas.

I often see people with big watches and large buttons on their jacket or metal zippers on their coat. It must make store owners cringe. Some have no watch/jacket policies but most stores I've been to don't mention it or aren't able to enforce it. I try to be very careful when playing new guitars because of that exact issue. Damage isn't intentional, but it happens, especially on the back.

Much sympathy.
Too bad. Gives online buying (and CME) a bad name and a blood nose.
Let us know how you make out.
Good luck!
