D'Addario String Problem

I've enjoyed using D'Addario EJ16 strings for years and have restrung my guitars for 65 years. However, when recently changing strings, I've experienced the high E string not holding pitch and breaking off below the bridge pin when I tried to tune to the correct pitch. This week, it occurred with five sets of strings on two different Collings OM guitars. Breaking 5 strings with sets purchased from two different sources. Trusted guitar technicians examined the guitars and found no problems. Interestingly, there was no problem when I replaced the broken strings with the old EJ16 strings I'd just removed. Low E, A, D, G and B strings were restrung without a problem. I'm suspecting a quality control problem with the strings. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Why don’t you contact D’Addario and let us know what they say?

Here’s a link to D’Addario’s page to verify that your strings are authentic. There are counterfeits out there:

godfreydaniel: Thanks for your reply and for the information you provided to verify my strings are authentic. The Players Circle Code verified that my strings are authentic. Several packages of strings were purchased from The Guitar Center and from Sweetwater. I did send a paragraph to D'Addario about the issue and will let you know what they say. I don't have any more old high E strings. I did use a B string from the same package with no problem.

Got a response from D'Addario today. They were most helpful and here is part of their great response.

Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Sorry to hear that.

Please provide your address when you reply back.
I will then have this taken care of and then some.

D'addario make zillions of strings and most are of exemplary quality,BUT - there can be issues ad it will be a batch problem.
You have done the right thing by contacting George Santos, and you WILL recompensed generously...and why not ? You have reported them of a serious QC issue.
While you are at it, I recommend that you try a set of XS pbs - I say that because, whilst I'm NOT a coated string fan these new generation of strings just don't wear out!
